5 Mistakes When Planting Trees And Shrubs

Before planting any plant in your yard make sure research to understand how to take care of the plants and also how it will affect your landscape.

1 Planting invasive tree species

Invasive species grow incredibly fast, push out local plants and harm the biodiversity of an area.
Cassy Aoyagi from LA Landscaping notes, “Many invasive species sap the resilience of neighboring plants and trees, which can speed fire cycles, make mudslides more deadly, and even change the composition of the soil, making it less hospitable for native plants that would otherwise protect us.”

2 Planting too much, too close together

At first, planting close together do look good, but after a few months, plant and trees will fight for light and nutrients. Which will result in dead leaves and branches and money down the drain.

Instead of cramming in a bunch of flowering bushes or your tress in one spot, plant them with space to grow so they’ll be stronger and healthier as they mature.

3 Placing Rocks near trees

The trend of putting big rocks near a tree is a bad idea; this can compress the earth around the roots of the tree and kill it. Instead, leave leaf litter on the ground and spread mulch or plant loving natives to decorate the base of your tree.

4 Not checking a tree’s final height

When planting trees consider the height of the tree and how it’ll affect the rest of your yard.
Chris Lambton from Yard Crashers says, anything that grows very tall will end up shading the full-sun flowers or bushes you’ve put in, and they’ll die off.

5 Prune at the right time of the year

Don’t just go in and chop. Carefully prune in the right spot to encourage the best growth and shape of your trees and plants.
