Hurricane Preparation Checklist | Bahamas Real Estate

Hurricane preparation is key to keeping your home and your family safe during Hurricane season. Hurricane season starts June 1st and ends November 30th, here are a few tips to help you ensure that you are prepared for this year’s Hurricane Season.

STRENGTHEN YOUR HOME

If you plan to ride out the storm in your home make sure everything is in good repair.

  • Check roofing, boxing & shingles for damage
  • Check that all windows are closing and sealed properly
  • Make sure trees are trimmed & any loose debris is cleared from your yard
  • Inspect shutters for damage and make repairs as needed

DETERMINE YOUR RISK

Find out what types of wind and water hazards affect your area the most. Was your area susceptible to storm surge and flooding? This will help you to prepare your home better.

  • If your area floods; you need to use more sandbags and possibly evacuate your home
  • If you live in a neighborhood with a large number of trees, some extra trimming/cutting may need to be done to ensure that trees do not fall on your home
  • If your home is on the water you need to be prepared for storm surge and to possibly evacuate

  • Keep important papers and information with you in a container or plastic folder
  • Don’t forget coverage for your car or boat
